Who We Are
My introduction to soccer was watching Johan Cruyff and George Best play in front of small crowds at the Rose Bowl. That was a long time ago. Since then I have been to dozens of national team games, hundreds of MLS and lower league matches, and every single LA Galaxy opening game from 1996 until Covid shut everything down. I started coaching in the early 1990s and never really stopped.
I built this site because American soccer deserves a better map. There are hundreds of clubs, dozens of leagues, and a system most fans cannot fully see. SoccerNationUSA is my attempt to make it visible.
The site has four main areas. How U.S. Soccer Works explains the league structure, the pyramid, and how the pieces connect. Leagues and Clubs is a directory of professional and semi-professional soccer across the country. Fan Culture covers scarves, soccer caves, matchday gear, and the stuff that makes following the game fun. Youth Soccer helps parents and coaches navigate development, tournaments, and training.
American soccer has come a long way. MLS built something real in cities where professional soccer had no business surviving, and that matters. The game has grown since then. The audience has grown. The infrastructure has grown. This site believes a more connected system would give more clubs, more players, and more communities a real stake in the professional game. That case is made where it is relevant, with the evidence laid out and the counterarguments taken seriously.
Some pages on the site include gear recommendations. They come from real experience. Coaching youth teams, following the game at every level, and knowing what actually holds up on a sideline versus what looks good in a product photo. Where there are affiliate links there is a disclosure. The recommendations do not change based on commission.
