If you leave a comment on the site, we collect the information you enter in the comment form along with your IP address and browser details. These help with spam detection.
Your email address may be used to check for a Gravatar profile image. You can find the Gravatar privacy policy at automattic.com/privacy. If your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible alongside it.
If you upload images to the site, avoid images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). That location data can be extracted by anyone who downloads the image.
Leaving a comment gives you the option to save your name, email, and website in cookies so you do not have to fill them in again next time. These cookies last one year.
Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is removed when you close your browser.
Logging in sets cookies to remember your login and display preferences. Login cookies last two days. Display cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login to two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
Publishing or editing an article saves a cookie that records the post ID. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.
Some pages include embedded content such as videos or images from other websites. That content behaves as if you visited those sites directly. They may collect data about you, use their own cookies, and track your interaction with their content.
How your data is shared
If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved without going back into the moderation queue.
Registered users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time from their profile. Usernames cannot be changed. Site administrators can also view and edit that information
If you have an account or have left comments on the site, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we delete it. This does not apply to data we are required to keep for legal, administrative, or security reasons.
